In any business, sooner or later there comes a feeling of a certain “monotony”. Playing with a friend Euro Truck Simulator 2, probably the most chilling game in history (in my subjective opinion, of course), I inadvertently got excited about the idea of trying something new for myself again. For about a year now I have been organizing mini-marathons for myself on various old and not so old series of games that I have never played, and which I may not even have heard of. Someday I will get around to finishing my review of Gothic, which is gathering dust on my hard drive, which is what I wanted to start a series of multi-part reviews of those games that still force me, almost 13 years later, to call games art and my sincere passion.
This summer has been special for me for many reasons. Lots of events in real life and online. And then I wanted to finish it by going through the series, which I had heard about for almost all these 13 years of my gaming life. For some it is one of the best game series, but for others it is an overrated conveyor for children. I know people on both sides, so I wanted to give my opinion on these games. And, approaching the halfway point, I can say for sure that all this is clearly not in vain..
So today I would like to talk about the first part of this video game saga. Origins are always an interesting object to study (well, except, of course, AC: Origins), and the roots of the series go deep into the history of the industry itself.
In 1986 the company Nintendo has already thundered throughout the world with its revolutionary console NES (known in his homeland as Famicom, and here, in post-Soviet Russia and neighboring countries, as Dendy), a series of games about a mustachioed plumber in a red hat, games about Donkey Kong, about Samus in the Metroid series, etc. And many of the cult titles from Nintendo of that time are united by one common link, and to be precise – one person – Shigeru Miyamoto (宮本茂). And he gave us, in addition to all of the above, one more series, which will be discussed – The Legend of Zelda .
The first Zelda was, if https://nokyccasinos.org.uk/review/magic-win/ not a breakthrough game for its time, which would be a very loud statement on my part, then at least very, very successful. The game had its own atmosphere, it was moderately challenging and gave players the freedom to explore, which was more of a rarity in the 80s than it is now. It was the first adventure for many back then, and it continues to this day as more new players join Link’s eternal mission. And even now you can see the influence of the original Zelda in some popular titles, which amused me very much while I was actually playing through it, and the phrases “Damn, just like in…” caused dissonance in my head. Well, it’s time to move on to the game itself, otherwise this preface will be drawn out even more.
Background and plot
The Legend of Zelda — the most classic action-adventure game in a fantasy setting.
The action takes place in the fictional world of Hyrule, which has been consumed by evil, the source of which is a certain creature named Ganon, who kidnapped Princess Zelda. We, the brave hero named Link, have to collect a magical artifact Triforce, to defeat Ganon, save the kingdom and the princess.
If you read the plot of the plot, it may seem very familiar, because, in essence, this is the plot of another famous game by Miyamoto – Super Mario Bros., maybe more fantasy. And to some extent this is a plus, as it allows you to appreciate the creative zeal and creativity of the developers, who managed to turn one story into two radically different games…having the opportunity to borrow concepts, monsters and. T. d. The princess has been kidnapped, the villain wants to conquer the kingdom, and we must save everyone. Simple, but it works!
The plot of the plot is over and when we get into the game we give ourselves over.
Yes, we have a global goal – to collect Triforce and save Zelda, but we don’t get any more information. This is intended to immerse us in the atmosphere of a great adventure, to give us a sense of exploration, so that we figure everything out ourselves and look for secrets with dungeons, and discover ways to defeat certain enemies. All this without tooltips or other unnecessary text red tape.
There is plenty of all of the above in the game. The world consists of +/- 128 screens, which is actually decent. The world, for the most part, is open from the very beginning, but due to inexperience, you instinctively want to hold your horses and explore the lands nearby from spawn. However, as many people know, it is dangerous to go far alone, and therefore the kind inhabitant of the cave on the spawn screen will give us our first weapon – a Sword (some people write a wooden sword, others just a sword). A necessary thing, but by the middle of the game it will not be so effective.
Well, since we touched on the arsenal, I’ll briefly mention what we can find in the game.
Each item has a good area of use.
Arsenal
Sword – the main weapon of any warrior, that’s why all fights either begin with it or end with it. As the game progresses, we have opportunities to get better weapons. To do this, you need to make some progress in the game itself and, in fact, find where these swords are located
White sword – improved version of the standard sword. Deals double damage from the original sword, has a white blade and a blue hilt, which makes it painfully reminiscent of one of the swords from future games… however, nothing else is remarkable.
Magic sword – the most powerful melee weapon in the game, deals 2 times more damage than the White Sword and is obtained when Link is ready to storm the final dungeon.
Also, in addition to melee combat, there is also ranged. For it we can use:
